The Santa Ynez Valley is one of the top producing regions for wine making and one of the most beautiful.
All the elegant and refined bottles of Bordeaux and rustic red blends, come with their own unique take on what makes this region so special.
No matter which winery you choose to visit, I assure you that you’ll have a great time with any of these options.
In fact, it was quite difficult to only give ten recommended choices and not twenty… but the wineries listed below have all been consistent in service, experience and quality.
Wine regions around the world have become more envious of this special location.
Even Italy has been known to take California-grown Sangiovese grapes and use it in their wines!
Because every grape varietal is carefully selected and grown based on the fluctuating climates throughout the valley.
Everything from the soil, weather & temperatures go into consideration, making Santa Ynez wines some of the best in California – and apparently other parts of the world too!
1. Melville Winery
One of the most consistent wines in the valley, Melville Winery. Melville has created some amazing wines that withhold its value each year.
Often one of the favorite bottles to bring at a party, Melville is famous for their elegant Pinot Noir’s and Chardonnay’s.
They offer a modern and sophisticated winery experience that’s inviting, with knowledgeable staff and gorgeous views of vineyards surrounding you.
You feel like you belong in a Tuscan villa, transported to Italy for the day. An amazing location and absolutely beautiful winery.
2. Fess Parker Winery
Founded by the late Fess Parker (yep, Davy Crockett), this family-owned winery has a spacious, sophisticated and outright gorgeous atmosphere.
The expansive property is ideal for picnics or lawn games while maintaining it’s calming and quiet atmosphere.
The tasting room includes an outdoor patio that’s covered by an awning and overlooks the vineyards. Further out into the grass, you can reserve picnic tables.
3. Roblar Winery
Roblar Winery combines elegance with a welcoming, rustic atmosphere.
Their tasting room is warm and cozy, with grand wood beams, a massive stone fireplace and a spacious outdoor patio.
They have an amazing on-site chef that cooks with the food grown on property, making it some of the freshest and most delicious meals in town.
They have an incredible farm-to-table menu, usually available only on weekends.
Their fresh produce is also available for purchase at the entrance of the winery.
My favorite time to visit is during the spring season, where you will see hundreds of wisteria flowers flowing over the outdoor beams.
Visitors can enjoy a day sitting outside on the patio, inside near the fireplace, or choose a picnic table beside a vegetable garden.
4. Sunstone Winery
Sunstone Winery is like a mini-Tuscan and romantic escape in the heart of Santa Ynez.
The stone villas and courtyards and absolutely stunning, and the laid-back vibe makes it a perfect place to spend the afternoon with your friends.
It’s a large property and they’ll always accommodate visitors without reservations.
They offer a large selection of wine as well as live music on most weekends. A super fun spot to bring your friends along!
5. Buttonwood Winery
Buttonwood Winery is an adorable tasting room located on a beautiful peach farm that feels like a slice of heaven.
It has some of the most beautiful gardens to explore, orchards, and vineyards, making it a relaxing and peaceful experience.
Buttonwood focuses on sustainability and you can taste the love in each glass.
Similar to Roblar, they have an on-site chef and delicious menu (one of the best in the valley – try their smash burger).
They have an exceptional rosé, interesting organic wines and red wines that are all phenomenal. I usually leave with a new kind of red I’ve never heard of!
6. Vega Vineyard and Farm
Vega Vineyard and Farm is more than just a winery – it’s a whole new and fun experience.
This working farm has vineyards, full menu, gardens and even a petting zoo!
A perfect stop to travel with kids, or if you’re just a big kid at heart.
The wines here are delicious to say the least, but the family-friendly atmosphere is incredibly fun and welcoming, making this place one of the local favorites of the Santa Ynez Valley.
7. Foley Estates Vineyard and Winery
Foley Estates is situated on a beautiful hillside with a tasting room that feels like a cozy lodge.
They specialize in Burgundian-style wines and the estate’s cool-climate vineyards produce some of the region’s best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The setting here is serene and quiet. Rolling hills in the distance, grape vines all around you and the sounds of birds chirping, making it an ideal stop for a relaxing wine-tasting session.
8. Firestone Vineyard
Firestone is known for its beautiful grounds and great wines, it’s the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the views all around you.
An easy stop that captures the heart of Santa Ynez wine country.
However the pace picks up on the weekends as live bands come and play out in the courtyard until closing.

A visit to Dierberg Winery offers a quiet, refined and tranquil wine-tasting experience in Santa Ynez.
Tucked away farther than most wineries, it’s set along rolling hills with sweeping vineyard views. A gorgeous setting for anyone wanting to enjoy the beauty of Santa Ynez.

Solvang is a popular stop to make in this area. While I do feel that this town is slightly overrated, it really is an adorable little destination to visit at least once. Especially if you are new to the area and love charming little towns with danish architecture.
The Ostrich farm is a fun (and random) activity nearby, for those who are curious to see these giant birds up close, and it’s only $5.
